A Night Of Champions


The Island Trees Track and Field team ran away with 10 new conference champions recently at the Conference 6 Championships at St. Anthony’s High School. Cara Duffy (1000M and 1500M) and Rich Imbro (300M and 4 x 200M relay) led the way in two different events. Courtney Martin (55M hurdles), Tommy Zamroz (shotput), Matt Sellitto (200M relay), Matt Lardi (200M relay), Stephen Craine (200M relay) and Gianna McGowan (55M) all were triumphant in their events too. Duffy and McGowan both set new Island Trees winter season records in their events. Included below are all that won all-conference designations:

Conference Champions

  • Cara Duffy (sophomore) 1000 Meter and the 1500 Meter
  • Rich Imbro (junior) 300 Meter and the 4 x 200 relay

Overall, the girls team became the conference runner-up by coming in second to the Cold Spring Harbor squad, while the boys were in the upper end of the field by coming in a solid fourth place. The combined team is still quite young (only four seniors), and as such they expect much more success in the future.
